A presentation dust jacket, so printed across front panel and carrying the following script at lower extremity: “Into the Valley” is the second book to be judged imperative by the Council on Books in Wartime –formed by the book publishers of America to sponsor books which make ‘important contributions to the war.’ (The only other book to receive the Imperative label as W.L. White’s “They Were Expendable.”)” Presentation copy book plate on front end-paper, with the compliments of Time Magazine [for whom Hersey worked]. William Worsley’s copy.
