Description
Hardcover, light green cloth lettered in black, with picture of cruise ship on front cover. 273pp., Illustrated from line drawings by Mr. A.P. Thompson and photographs by Mrs. Cross and others. First edition. An interseting travelogue penned by an ex-representative of Parliament from Glasgow. Line drawings are of prosaic sites and monuments, but the photographs are wondrfully evocative of life in American and Canadian urban centers during the first decade of the twentieth century. As a tourist from across the pond, Cross was interested in most aspects of everyday life that differed from those familiar to him back in Britain. Hence the chapter ‘From the Fifteenth Floor’, accompanied by a photograph; and his commentaty on the new, (and from his observation), growing trend towards prohibition [of alcohol]. Neat gift inscription on front free endpaper, dated 1911. Mild sporadic foxing and finger soiling to text. Covers are strong and intact, with spine slightly sunned and cloth mildly faded. A solid, tight, internally clean copy. Good+. Scans on request.
