Description
Hardcover, beige cloth lettered in gold with blue and gold circular motif on front cover. 234 pages. Introduction by Mitchell Carroll. Illustrated with 8 full color and numerous black and white photographic plates. First edition. A travelogue by An American spending time in Kashmir, a valley in northern India bounded on the southwest by the Pir Panjal Range and on the northeast by the main Himalayas range. A delightful look at the people, economy, social habits and culture of this British Crown colony during the second year of the Great War, a fact which ironically does not intrude on this American’s holiday fancies. The area covered is now disputed territory and one of the principal areas of contention between India and Pakistan. No previous ownership marks. Cloth lightly age soiled, paper on front inner hinge cracked albeit hinge strong, tips show moderate fraying. A good, solid and still attractive copy.
