Large format quarto, hardcover bound in blue boards with decorative borders and back cloth spine, in original dark blue plain wrappers. 17 pages of text, followed by a suite of seven paintings and engravings of Johnson, each preceded by letterpress page identifying artist: Joshua Reynolds, J. Nollekens, Bartolozzi, Trotter Harding. Additional image of Johnson [the Flaxman Medallion] precedes text. Most illustrations printed on pale blue stock. First edition, limited to 385 copies. Printed by Bruce Rogers at the Harvard University Press. No previous ownership marks. End-papers lightly tones and partial old bookseller label visible at lower front free end-paper. Two pages of text (16/17) toned, probably from old news article that had been laid-in. Else a clean, square, unmarked copy. Very good in very good dust-jacket.
