Description

Hardcover, large octavo bound in brown cloth, no dust-jacket. 397 pages. Bibliography, Index. Illustrated with 18 images and a large fold-out map of Philadelphia. First edition. “A vivid and comprehensive picture of the party fights which led to the establishment of the Democratic-Republican Party and the election of Jefferson as President – and particular of the important part which young Benjamin Franklin Bache, imbued with the political philosophy of his grandfather, played in these events.” [from dust-jacket]. Previous owner’s name inside front cover. Two color pictures of Benjamin Franklin affixed to front free end-paper and half-title, respectively, as well as a black and white portrait of Franklin on blank verso at the start of “Book Two”. Approximately a dozen small pin-holes visible on spine and old, faded light damp-stain to lower margin of last twenty pages. But for cosmetic faults mentioned a sound, tight, internally clean and unmarked copy. An excellent reading copy. Good.
