First edition. “A vivid and comprehensive picture of the party fights which led to the establishment of the Democratic-Republican Party and the election of Jefferson as President – and particular of the important part which young Benjamin Franklin Bache, imbued with the political philosophy of his grandfather, played in these events.” [from dust-jacket]. Previous owner’s name inside front cover. Two color pictures of Benjamin Franklin affixed to front free end-paper and half-title, respectively, as well as a black and white portrait of Franklin on blank verso at the start of “Book Two”.
