Hardcover, vol. I only (of two), recased in light brown coarse grained cloth and new end-papers. Contains all of vol. I [648 pages] and the first 64 pages of vol. II [chapters LXXVII – LXXXIII, including first page with large vignette woodcut]. All edges gilt and large red leather spine label. Illustrated with full page steel engravings. Published 1865, early printing, originally published in 1863. No previous ownership marks or book-plates. Tissue guards intact and plates and text clean. A solidly bound, internally clean copy. Some damage to margins of first and last leaves, corners lacking at lower tips of several plates and rubbing to red leather spine label. Overall a well preserved copy, now rebound in utilitarian cloth binding, containing 64 pages of vol II. Good. Broadfoot 1041. A large, heavy book, Priority and International orders will require additional postage.
