Description
Hardcover, octavo volume bound in full light brown gilt stamped decorative leather. 821 pages. Illustrated by John Austen with a color frontispiece and black and white drawings, some full page. Prefatory essay by John T. Winterich. A quality Easton Press production with all the refinements that go to make this a truly fine binding: silk moire end-papers and bound in ribbon marker, all edges gilt, raised spine, 22kt gold stamping, smyth-sewn binding and full genuine leather. Reprint edition, first thus. A title in the Collector’s Edition, the 100 Greatest Books Ever Written. Previous owner’s Easton Press book plate filled in and affixed to verso of front free end-paper, with three small round blind-stamps from separate owner on lower fore-edge corners, one located on title-page. Leather binding is fine with no bumps, wear of loss of gilt. Gilt edges of text show significant loss. Overall a good or better copy.
