This special limited edition was prepared from the first edition of 1793, courtesy of the Yale Medical Library First edition thus, number 921, with original subscriber’s unused personalized book-plate, bearing limitation number, laid-in loose. Baillie’s work concentrated on the postmortem anatomical approach to the study of disease, eschewing the contemporary 18th century practice of case histories as the favored epistemic genre of medical practitioners with their patients. “At the same time, Baillie’s later editions contained more features of cases, such as descriptions of symptoms. Thus, individual books worked to integrate epistemic genres, and change practice in the study of disease.” [The Royal Society Publishing, Volume 75, Issue 1 (20 March 2021)].
