Description
Full-Leather. First American edition, bound in full tan calf with gilt spine and two red leather spine labels. Issued originally in white wrappers, this slim volume followed closely on the heels of Dickens death [9 June 1870] and Sala’s sketch was one of the earliest posthumous biographies to see publication during the year 1870. “Dean Stanley’s Sermon” was the one delivered at Dickens funeral at Westminster Abbey and was actually reprinted from the London Times, where it first appeared in print. Rebound in a handsome calf binding with marbled endpapers. Covers show only incidental rubbing at extremities. A Dickens centennial sticker affixed to front blank prelim. Podeschi D60
