Hardcover, large folio bound in green cloth lettered in gold (Japanese) on front cover and spine, in original publisher’s dust-jacket and heavy acetate protective cover. Housed in original folding cardboard box with printed black and white spine and cover labels. 437 pages. Errata slip tipped-in. Brief prefatory note and preface by Yasukawa Daigoro (President of the Organizing Committeee) and Asano Nagatake (Director, Tokyo National Museum). Introduction by Noma Seiroku. Trilingual edition, with text printed in English, French and Japanese. Illustrated with 400 captioned black and white photographs and tipped-in color plates, captioned in English and Japanese; with brief notes on each illustration provided in all three languages. First edition. No previous ownership marks. A clean, sound, fresh and unmarked copy. Book shows a single vertical line on end-papers corresponding to where dust-jacket flap ends else fine, dust-jacket is fine, acetate wrappers show small tear to upper front fold. Original box in intact with minimal wear and staining; string tie used as clasp broken. A superior copy of this increasingly difficult title to find in nice condition.
