Description

Hardcover, quarto size volume bound in dark red cloth lettered in gold with large rectangular color paste-down on upper cover. 86 pages. Illustrated with 8 full page color plates by N.C. Wyeth. First edition thus, being an unabridged republication of the edition published by David McKay Company, Philadelphia, in 1921. The short story itself was first published in 1819 in Irving’s collection of tales entitled “The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.” Interestingly it was written in Birmingham, England. where Irving was currently residing and regarding its setting just north of New York City the author later commented: “When I wrote the story, I had never been on the Catskills.” No previous ownership marks. No remainder mark. A pristine and as new copy, clean, fresh and apparently unread. As new.
