Description

Hardcover, bound in full contemporary 18thC.calf. Second edition prominently printed on title with corresponding date of 1783. This edition was expanded from the 1772 original printing. Errata Corrigenda tipped-in after page X of Formulae Medicamentorum. Text is subdivided into distinct page sections: Front Matter: xiv pages (which include the Title page and introduction by author) followed by vii pages. First Essay Section: 88 pages. Second Essay Section: x introductory pages followed by 214 main text pages. Third Essay Section/Appendix: [2] unnumbered pages followed by 105 pages. No previous ownership marks. End-papers show toning at all outer edges (as well as immediate adjacent leaves) which appear to be either an early repair or reenforcement. There are no tears or chips and the repair appears seamless but for a slight ridge where it abuts the original paper. An internally unblemished copy with virtually no foxing, wide margins and clean supple pages. Calf binding is solid and hinges strong with faux hubs on spine demarcated by gold rules and decorations. Title and author printed on single black leather spine label. Binding rubbed, especially at spine. A very good copy of Lysons empirical observations on heavy mineral treatments, thermal spa therapies, and botanical interventions typical of the era.
