Description
Hardcover in publisher’s non price-clipped dust-jacket. 449 pages. Edited, with an introduction, by Hershel Parker. Illustrated with color drawings by Maurice Sendak. First edition thus, first printing. This expurgated edition, as the publisher writes, is “…not offered as definitive”, but rather the closest to the original version presented to the publisher in 1852, after Melville’s caustic and personal additions were elided from the text. No previous ownership marks. A clean, fresh and unmarked copy. Dust-jacket shows incidental rubbing to tips and corners, as well as a single short scratch to green covers. A fine copy in a very good+ dust-jacket.
