Description

Hardcovers in silver and blue paper covered boards and non price-clipped dust-jackets. Small format edition of a work first published in 1952. Tiles are: 1. Painting 6th – 14th Century; 2. Painting 14th – 19th Century; 3. Sculpture; 4. Ceramics and Metalwork; 5. Textiles and lacquer; 6. Architecture and Gardens. All volumes illustrated with numerous vignette black and white photographs and 50 full page photographic plates, 10 of which are in color but for volumes III {Sculpture} and VI [Archite4cture and Gardens] which include 3 and 4 color plates respectively. First editions, stated first printings of the Popular Edition, dated either 1957 or 1958. No previous ownership marks. End-papers moderately toned as per usual and jackets show varying degrees of wear, with some rubbing and loss to upper back-strips; volume IV [Ceramics and Metalwork] showing oval hole at upper spine. All books are clean, tight and unmarked. Dust-jackets are intact and moderately worn, but complete. All housed in silver and blue publisher’s slipcase, which shows age soiling and rubbing, but is solid with no tears or splits. Very good set in generally good dust-jackets. Priority and International orders will require additional postage, calculated as close to actual cost as possible.
