Description
Small octavo hardcover, brown cloth with image of walled keep in black on front cover and what appears to be an Egyption cartouche in the shape of a sarcophagus stamped in gold on spine. Gold lettering on spine and front board. 311pp., illustrated with several engraved plates and nunerous vignette half-tones. Patterned endpapers. No previous ownership marks. Mild wear to boards but overall a clean, square copy. Interior clean with only mild toning from age, boards clean, hinges strong. A typical travelogue of the period when the “Grand Tour” was still in vogue. Of the 14 chapters, fully four are devoted to the Middle East and Holy Land. A very scarce title in nice condition. Very good.
