Hardcover, small quarto bound in red cloth, lettered in gold. 181 pages. marbled end-papers, illustrated with photographs. First edition. Signed presentation copy by author, with his card d’visite affixed to front free end-paper and signed in pen with full signature. A gift to the Harvard family. Written on top of title-page is inscription to Valery Harvard, Jr., whose father was Chief Surgeon on the Island, his son actually born there in 1905. Smith, the author, was Island Chaplin. No previous ownership marks. Book block untrimmed. Light wear to tips and extremities, but still a clean, square, solid copy with bright lettering on cloth and no marking internally. A very good copy of a signed association copy. Scarce.
