Hardcover, rebound copy of original paper-bound Christams issue, sans wrappers. Quarto, red cloth lettered in gold on spine. 128pp., Brief one page Introduction by General Birdwood [Sir William Birdwood (1865-1951) led the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps – the ANZACs – from 1914 almost to the end of the war in 1918]. Illustrated throughout with captioned photographs by Capt F Hurley, Lieut. E. Brooks, Lieut. H. F. Baldwin, and Lieut. G. H. Wilkins, plus drawings and cartoons. Compiled as a picture book for the Australian home-front as the troops prepared to face their fourth Christmas of the Great War. Rebound by former owner, not ex-library. Book protected by mylar covers, into which relevant photographs have been mounted to create an ersatz dust-jacket. Title on spine in white against red background. Inside boards show toned marks from where mylar had been affixed. Else no faults, a very clean, square, fresh and unmarked copy. No previous ownership marks. Additionally, two large photographs [8″ x 6″] depicting Imperical troops on maneuvers on the Rhenoster River in South Africa, dated 1907 in pencil on verso. Scottish troops, in kilts, visible in both. Commentary on verso of one shot reads in part “A dismal drain in a dismal country”. A near fine copy. Scans sent on request.
