Translated from the original Latin by W.G. Spencer. Additional refinements include bound in silk ribbon marker, raised spine hubs and specially commissioned marbled end-papers by Richard J. Wolfe. This special limited edition was prepared from the English translation of 1935 courtesy of the Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine. First edition thus of a limited edition, this being number 921, with original subscriber’s personalized book-plate, bearing limitation number, affixed to blank verso of second leaf. Celsus was a Roman encyclopedist and is best known for his work – “De Medicina”, believed to be the only extant section a of a much larger encyclopedia. One of the best sources concerning medical knowledge in the Roman world, it remains a primary source on diet, pharmacy, surgery and related fields A clean, fresh and unmarked copy, pristine and as new.
