The last ten pages comprise a narrartive genealogy of the Fairfax and Cary families. Includes a brief account of Jackson’s celebrated Valley campaign. Howes lists this title but reports it as ‘Robert’ Fairfax, not Randolph. He also notes the the only two extant early editions, 1864 and 1878 are recorded as second and third ediitions, respectively, surmising that the first printing was most probably in periodical form. A very clean, square, unmarked copy. No previous ownership marks. Cloth clean and interior fresh, no foxing, toning or writing. A very nice and well preserved copy of an exceedingly scarce Civil War biography in an early printing. Howes S549. Very good+.
