Hardcover, bound in genuine red top-grain cowhide, with all edges gilt and covers brass-die stamped in 22kt gold. 175 and 288 pages respectively, two titles bound as one. Additional refinements include bound in silk ribbon marker, raised spine hubs and specially commissioned marbled end-papers by Richard J. Wolfe. Both tiles are illustrated with vignette drawings in the text. This special limited edition was prepared from copies of the first English editions (1852) and (1833), courtesy of the Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine for Knox and The Reynolds Historical Library for Bell. First edition thus, number 921, with original subscriber’s unused personalized book-plate [the paper copy without adhesive back], bearing limitation number, laid-in loose. This special reprint edition, privately printed for members of The Classics of Medicine Library, presents two important 19th century treatises on hand anatomy & histology. No previous ownership marks. A clean, fresh, unmarked and unread copy. As new.
