Description
Hardcover, oblong paper illustrated boards by Edward Gorey. Unpaginated. [68 pages]. Illustrated throughout with drawings by Gorey on rectos, with accompanying letterpress on facing versos. First Edition, stated first printing. “Gathered for the annual charity fete at Backwater Hall in Mortshire, the host Lord Wherewithal is dead, Horace Gallop cavorts with Victoria Scone, and someone has offended decorum by disembowelling a stuffed thisby belonging to the Earl of Thump.” One of the more bizarre plots, even for Gorey, illumed with the author’s trademark drawings of faded Victorian splendor. No previous ownership marks. Some moderate toning to the extremities of covers. Else a tight, sound, square and internally unmarked copy. Good or better.
