Oblong hardcover, tomato red. boards framing Gorey artwork on front and rear cover, in publisher’s non price-clipped dust-jacket. Unpaginated [58 pages]. Illustrated throughout with black and white drawings by Edward Gorey, with images printed on rectos and corresponding letterpress on facing versos. First trade edition, with no additional printing listed and original publisher’s price of $4.50 on dust-jacket flap. Copyright page lists date as 1974 [actually 1975]. One of Gorey’s most popular ‘alphabet books’, illustrated in his classic weird and macabre style The work originally appeared in the SoHo Weekly News and was later reprinted in “Amphigorey Also”. The last plate is one of the artist’s nicest self-portraits wryly captioned – “He wrote it all down Zealously”. No previous ownership marks. Book shows incidental wear to very bottom of boards and dust-jacket faded to light brown at spine and with two minute tears, else a clean, square, unmarked copy. Very good+ in a near very good dust-jacket.
