Illustrated with frontispiece and 80 photographs, 4 plans and numerous passage schedules. Reprint, printed 1975, fourth printing of the New Edition (1948). A nautical history, divided into four major sections, covering the commercial and passenger trade to the South Pacific from Great Britain during the epoch of the great wooden clippers to that of the great iron sailing ships. Publisher’s original book-mark laid-in listing other famous titles on the history of sail. No previous ownership marks. Isolated marginal foxing to some plates and dust-jacket shows old tape repairs on verso. Book is otherwise clean, square, and unmarked. Dust-jacket has light shelf-wear soiling to rear panel and mild edge-wear. Still a very good copy in a good+ dust-jacket of an important maritime history.
