Hardcover, black cloth with printed pictorial paper paste-down to upper board, spine lettered in gold, black end-papers and top edge. Illustrated with 24 black and white drawings and eight full color tipped-in plates by Harry Clarke. First American edition thus, with “MCMCCCIII” on title-page. No previous ownership marks. Light toning to text block as per normal for this edition. Lettering on back-strip faded, just readable, spine cloth dulled from sun.. Cloth shows minor rubbing at head and foot of spine, else clean and unmarked. Pictorial paste-down on front board clean and complete. Hinges sound, text clean, and all plates present and unmarked. A near very good copy.
