Hardcover, rebound in later nineteenth century utilitarian cloth. 503 pages. Title page lists title as SKETCHES with author listed as Charles Dickens [not Boz]. Copyright edition centered on title-page. An early Tauchnitz printing, dated 1843. Containing the earliest productions of Dickens this copy contains the entire contents of the title “Sketches by Boz”, originally published in two series. Rebound , cloth rubbed. A tight, sound internally clean copy with strong hinges and no previous ownership marks. Light old damp-stain to lower fore-edge of title and following two leaves [advertisement & contents], else a very clean text block with no writing or foxing. Small dark spot on bottom edge of bulked sheets bleeding onto lower margin on some leaves. A nice early Tauchnitz printing. [N.B. Podeschi lists the Tauchnitz 1843 edition [A14] as having the “Boz” title-page. No priority given.
