Description

Hardcover, pictorial boards in publisher’s non price-clipped dust-jacket. 120 pages. Index. Signed by the award winning artist and author Romare Bearden on front free end-paper to Lillie & Bob. Lillie refers to Lillian Lonngren Anders, an artist and a professor of fine arts at Wagner College. Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs and several pages of color reproductions of the artists’ works. This book explores the work of a half dozen seminal African American artists: Joshua Johnston; Robert S. Duncanson; Henry Ossawa Tanner; Horace Pippin; Augusta Savage; Jacob Lawrence. Stated first edition, first printing. No previous ownership marks but inscription. A clean, sound, tight and unmarked copy, shows only mild toning to inner gutters. Dust-jacket is complete and shows mild shelf and edge-wear, mild abrasion to outer rear fore-edge flap and some age toning. A very good+ copy in a near very good dust-jacket with Bearden’s scarce signature.
