Sarah Joiner Lyman of Hawaii, Her Own Story

1 in stock

Original light gray wrapper, perfect bound. 201 pages. Illustrated with photographs. First edition. Compiled from the journal and letters of Sarah Lyman by her great grand-daughter. Sarah was the wife of David Belden Lyman (July 28, 1803 – October 4, 1884), an early American missionary to Hawaii who opened a boarding school for Hawaiians. She not only taught at the school but kept a journal, important for its first hand account of life in Hawaii during the mid and latter half of the 19th century. No previous ownership marks. No spine crease. Mild rubbing to upper cover and small damp-stain to upper fore-edge, not affecting interior. Overall a clean, tight, internally unmarked copy. Near very good.
