Examination of the Council of Trent: Part I

1 in stock

Hardcover in publisher’s dust-jacket. Volume I of Chemnitz’s magnum opus on the Council of Trent, translated by Fred Kramer. 706 pages. Contains a biographical sketch of the author, Subject Index and Scripture Text Index. First edition thus. Essentially an examination of the work by Jacob Andrada, who wrote an explanation of the Council’s proceedings for dissemination, recognized as the authoritative work on the Council’s cannons and decrees. Chemnitz “has become the standard Lutheran answer to the claims of Rome as set forth at Trent.” No previous ownership marks. Small nick to lower edge of front end-paper and half-title, several small spots to top edge of bulked sheets and dust-jacket shows chips and edge-wear. Else a square, clean, tight and unmarked copy. Very good+ in a good dust-jacket.
