Original purple cloth with gilt circular design on cover containing title and author, and gold lettering o n spine with stylized flower design under author’s name. Peach colored endpapers toned almost entirely to charcoal. First published in England in 1865 and following upon the success of “Atalanta in Ca lydon”, “Chastelard” is the first volume in Swinburne’s trilogy of romantic dramas on the subject of Mary Queen of Scots. The second volume “Bothwell” appeared in 1874 and the last, eponymously entitl ed “Mary Stuart” appeared in 1881. A clean, tight copy. Very good.
